Tezpur University was established on 21st January, 1994 as a non-affiliating, unitary type residential institute of higher education. Over a span of 20 years, the university has played a leading role in transforming the scenario of higher education in the entire North-Eastern region through innovative, employment driven and inter-disciplinary academic programs with transparent and scientific evaluation system and strong work ethics.
The directorate offers various post- graduate, undergraduate, diploma and certificate programs in emerging areas of Science, Technology & Engineering, Social Sciences, Management and Humanities with flexible system to cater to the need of the learners who otherwise can not avail the regular mode of education. Tezpur University has all along been trying to provide its facilities for carrying out meaningful and socially relevant research.
The Departments and individual faculty members are awarded prestigious research projects from funding agencies like ONGC, DST, DBT, DAE, UGC, AICTE, MS & PI, ICSSR, DRDO, CSIR, ISRO, NSC, MNCE, World Bank etc. and highly coveted National and International Fellowships. The basic focus of the directorate is to prepare human resources of the region and the country skilled and employable. The vision of the center is to grow to be a leading center for human resource development through distance, open and universal learning system. - To undertake various research and academic activities for furtherance of distance education in the region.
- To contribute to conserve and promote cultural heritage, literature, traditional knowledge and environment conducting short programs, workshops, seminars and research in interdisciplinary field.
